Il Sasso Language School ~ Historical building

 With a slightly saddened "Ciao!" I say good-bye to Il Sasso.  Superb teaching and activities really accelerated my proficiency.  Here I am getting my diploma:

And here are some dear friends who were with me along the way.  Karen, from New Jersey, and Amanda, from Virginia:
The school is housed in an historical building from the 1200's.  It is situated just inside the medieval city wall, next to a large portal entry.  Originally it was a convent and hospital that the sisters managed and operated.  The rooms are airy, with high ceilings:

Here is the door to the school... which was the door to the convent:

And to the right of this door is a large square opening, now filled in.  But it WAS one of those little doors that would receive abandoned babies.  If a mother could not provide for the child, or if he/she was illegitimate, she could just place him/her inside this little door and the nuns would take care of the child.
