That has always been my motto. And there is no better place to do that than a groovy medieval hill town. On Saturday I finally had a chance to wander through the town and check out some sites. My classes take up 5 hours a day (seriously) and so I feel like I am here on some kind of work visa. Goodness. I need more time for fabulousness! So here is some.
In the Piazza Grande stand several important buildings. The above Palazzo Comunale might look somewhat familiar (hint: Palazzo Vecchio in Florence) and there are reasons for that. It was built between 1300-1400 in the Florentine style. It is made of travertine stone, has a glib, arched doorway with two shelves. There is a griffen on one, and it represents Montepulciano. There was a lion on the other.. and there are several lion statues here and there throughout the city. The lion represents Florence, under whose paw rested Montepulciano. For 5 euro you can climb up to the tower and have a look around. I say, do it. If you suffer from vertigo, don't. The stairway up is made of worn-down steps, super tight and narrow, no air and no escape. It's FABULOUS!!But where you get to the top.... the glory of Tuscany awaits your contemplation:
Or you can just contemplate the Piazza Grande, which is just as splendid. Man-made vs. Nature.
And then you can have lunch:
Ciao, ragazzi! :)
